Ah...the Peter Pan life.
My fair readers, it is clear that I’ve been on a blogging hiatus as of late, with the reason being I had so much to say, but not nearly enough time to say it. First I was going to tell you about my international travels (you know that country up above that if we’re perfectly honest with ourselves barely classifies as a country?) and the wondrous waterfalls said country houses. Then I was going to captivate you with some savory tales of my fabulous show in its final days. Finally I planned to wow you with my glorious adventures in the wild west while I savored every moment with those who shaped me – the good, the bad, and most importantly, the interesting.
However, dear fans, I must be honest. Something greater has come along and trumped all my impending bloggeries. Last night, I had the best audition ever.
My voice teacher/friend/confidante has a network of composers for which she’s been promising to have me sing. A reading of a new and exciting work came up, and guess who was perfect for the part! You brilliant reader, you – you’re correct! It was I! (Shock of all shocks, I know.) We carefully planned what I would sing to wow the composer, and I was ready to blow his socks of this Thursday evening at 6:30.
The time came, and though I’d been informed that the audition was running a tad behind, I got there with time to spare. I do have my standard preparations of course – use the loo, freshen up the audition red lips, down some water, do some jumping jacks - you know – the usual.
I signed in with the monitor, a friendly chap who seemed quite happy to see me – well, who wouldn’t be? – and patiently waited my turn. The pleasant fellow soon announces that they’re ready for me – quite early, to my surprise – so I gather my headshot and my music, and I enter.
As per usual, I first scan the room to see who to greet and who will have the pleasure of holding my headshot with their very own hands. But something makes me stop dead in my tracks. I must have the wrong room. It’s empty! Who gets to hold my lovely headshot with my recently updated resume? And then I see him – the room’s not empty at all. Right next to the piano is a man…but wait…he doesn’t belong here…he should be at work…
As I’m dazed and confused, the man has to beckon me toward him. I walk in a haze as he proceeds to say some of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. And then, he gets down on one knee. It’s at this point, I realize that perhaps I shouldn’t be clutching my music and headshot as though my life depends on it: I’m 90% sure this audition isn’t happening.
And then that handsome fellow asks me the question every little girl dreams her prince will ask, shows me the ring of all rings, and with my answer becomes more than my fellow, but rather my future.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how in the best audition ever, I got offered the part right there on the spot, albeit not the role I woke up thinking I would be offered.
So, now it’s off to the sunshine state to celebrate with some dear friends and family. Then, we’re off to the slopes in Colorado, before we finally make our way back to my beloved city so I can start planning a lifetime with the man of my dreams.
